About Almaden Valley

It can be challenging to think of any neighborhood in a city the size of San Jose as having a rural vibe, but the Almaden Valley neighborhood manages to do just that.

Almaden Valley is a residential neighborhood in San Jose, CA. It was named after the New Almaden Quicksilver Mines, and produced mercury during the Gold Rush. There are views of rolling hills, beautiful open spaces and Mount Umunhum. Calero Reservior is also nearby for great water activities.

Located in the southwest part of the city, if you buy a home in Almaden Valley, you’ll have access to the light rail system and some high-ranking public schools.

Almaden Valley is home to five elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school, all administered by the San Jose Unified School District, except for Guadalupe Elementary School, which is overseen by the Union School District.

In 2016, Newsweek ranked Leland High School as the 90th best high school of 15,819 public high schools in the country. The U.S. Department of Education awarded Leland the Blue-Ribbon School of Excellence Award.

Williams Elementary School is another highly-ranked Almaden Valley school.

Prefer private school for your child? Holy Spirit School, Challenger and Almaden Country Day School are all located in the community.

Recreation, dining and shopping in Almaden Valley

Although Almaden Valley is a residential neighborhood, it’s close to many of San Jose’s amenities: Oakridge Mall, Almaden Plaza and Almaden Ranch are three shopping destinations that lure local residents.

Asian food fans will be delighted with the many and varied dining options in Almaden Valley — from Thai and Japanese cuisine to Korean and Chinese eateries.

Every neighborhood needs a comfy watering hole and in Almaden Valley you’ll find yours at Mike’s Place.

Outdoorsy types who buy homes in Almaden Valley will enjoy the 4,160-acre wonderland offered at Almaden Quicksilver Park. This county-run facility offers 37 miles of trails for hikers, 16 miles for bikers and 30 miles for equestrians.

Almaden Lake Park is the place for you to drop your line for some catch-and-release fishing.

Nicklaus wannabes can tee it up close to home – at the Almaden Golf and Country Club or, just over the community’s southeast border, the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club.
